The History of the LaRue Street Wellness Farm

A Legacy Reclaimed Since 1790

The LaRue Street Wellness Farm is a 250-year legacy being reclaimed with every hand-turned stone and restored timber. We are thoughtfully transforming our original family farmhouse into a sanctuary that honors the past through Primitive Wellness, (the art of slowing down, working the land, and reconnecting with the essential rhythms of nature).

Where History Meets Rest

Inside the farmhouse, every room tells a story. We have preserved the home’s soul through our collection of antique family furniture that provides an authentic bridge to the generations that preceded us. These historical pieces are slowly being paired with modern conveniences.

Living the Land

Our vision for a primitive wellness destination is blooming piece by piece:

  • The Gardens: We are expanding our sustainable gardens to provide fresh, seasonal produce. This direct connection to the soil mirrors the self-sufficiency that sustained the LaRue family for centuries.

  • The Guardians: Our fields are being readied for the future stewards—a resident goat and donkey—to help tend the landscape and complete the farm’s ecosystem.

  • The Water: Along the banks of Middle Island Creek, there is a gentle landing point. Whether you are fishing the longest creek in West Virginia or launching a kayak for a serene paddle, the creek offers a unique perspective on the landscape’s enduring memory.

Intentional Peace

Every detail at LaRue Street is crafted with intention. We invite you to step away from the noise of the modern world and step into a space where you can experience the same sense of peace and belonging that has drawn people to this land for over two and a half centuries.

Our Mission

LaRue Street Wellness Farm promotes health, wellness, (mental health) wildlife, forest (fauna) management, lifelong learning through community-driven programs on our 98-acre farm in West Virginia. We serve seniors seeking creative enrichment to emerging artists developing their craft via hands-on workshops in art, writing, sustainable gardening, mindfulness, and environmental education.
